Description
In 1981, as a freshman at Syracuse University, Alice Sebold was raped and beaten. A police officer investigating the case told her she was "lucky" that she didn't end up murdered like another woman assaulted that same night. The crime, however, had a profound effect on Seybold's life for years to come and forced her to address rape from not just a personal viewpoint but a larger societal view as well.
